Formula D Round 6 at Texas Motor Speedway Video Round-Up

Posted by: on

So today is the pre-big day… yea, not sure where I was headed with that, but today is Qualifying for Formula D Round 6 in Texas at Texas Motor Speedway. New location, new track, new layout, new fun, new videos!
Drivers are reporting entry speeds in the high 90s to the low 100s. Early in the day the highest entry was 101mph by Robbie Nishida in his Achilles Radial 2jz powered Lexus SC300, and by last night we saw posts on Facebook saying that D-MAC, Darren McNamara, had an entry of 104mph in his Falken Tire v8 powered Nissan S14.
Another big thing that is causing a lot of commotion is the insane temperatures on the track. Outside temperatures were in the high 90s to low 100s. One driver, Mats Baribeau, reported that outside temp was 39c(102.2f), pavement temp was 58c(136.4f), and the floor temp under the pedals in his Gold In The Net Drift JZX90 was 80c(176f)! I can’t imagine how these drivers are feeling after a single day of practice at the track, let alone how they will be come Sunday when all is said in done. Some drivers were even posting pictures of there NOS tanks on ice in prep for tomorrow.
Anyway without further a due, here are some of the videos posted yesterday and circling the interwebs.

Formula Drift Atlanta Controversy

Posted by: on

So I was able to make it up to Atlanta this weekend for Round 2 of Formula D, and I have hundreds of photos to sift through and started writing the recap but after working on the site latency and the 12 hour drive back yesterday I’m still a little winded. So that will wait, in the meantime I will say that I feel that I was extremely lucky to be there for 2 really controversial events that I feel will not be forgotten anytime soon.

First was the race between Danny George and Ryan Tuerck, both drivers I am really fond of and was rooting for, I went into this match thinking that the new 2JZ FR-S was going to just be a monster and pull but it didn’t and Danny did an amazing job on his lead run. The trouble started right off the bat on Tuerck’s lead run where Ryan claimed that Danny hit in and caused the spin and the judges (after a long review) awarded Tuerck the win. It seems now that more video is being released, this one by LORENinHD, that seems to show a different angle.

The other monsterous(you’ll get it in a second) event was when Vaughn Gittin JR seemed to forget he was following another car and powered over the front of Fredric Aasbo’s tC. When it first happened my jaw dropped but then to see both drivers continue the run was amazing, not a single person was sitting. They ended up going OMT for an unknown reason and giving Gittin the win, but it was an amazing match.

Neither of the results from these matches were favored by the crowd and it was loud and clear to everyone there, I have never heard a FD crowd boo as loud as when Tuerck was announced the winner or when Gittin moved on. So check back tomorrow for a full recap but there are two of the most talked about events as of right now. The other things that I’ll go into more detail in the recap was the amazing run Forrest Wang dropped vs Daigo Saito as well as the qualifying results disaster than left a lot of people confused going into Top32.

See the Awesome RS-R NASCAR TRD v8 Powered Toyota GT86

Posted by: on

CrankAndPiston.com has released a full video today of the RS-R’s new NASCAR TRD v8 Powered Toyota GT86/FR-S/BRZ being shaken down and tweaked at the Suzuka Circuit over in Japan and it’s just…wow… I don’t think the proper adjectives have been created to describe this beast. The engine itself is so massive and the GT-86 is so small it is amazing to even see it fit let alone function as well as it does. The car will primarily be driven by Max Orido in the Formula D Asia series, but Fredric Aasbo will also share some of the driving for this crazy GT-86 in that series as well.

The NASCAR TRD v8 has is a 5.8 liter and has had low RPM crackshaft swapped into it and produces 750hp and has a dry slump lubrication system. A lot of the fluids have been moved for weight distribution and the gearbox is a 6speed Hollinger sequential Y pattern. They also have fitted a NASCAR spec quick diff changer and the car is dressed up with a Rocket Bunny Aero kit. They say in the video that the car was built with the purpose of exciting spectators and I think it will do that when the car is just turned on let alone drifted. So without further ado check it out here.
