NASCAR V8 Powered FR-S Heading to Formula D Asia

Posted by: on

So after the 2012 Formula D season it was said that RS-R would not be returning to Formula D, I guess that meant just to the US Formula D because yesterday Fredric Aasbo Instagrammed that he was at Suzuki Twin Circuit in Japan testing RS-R’s latest creation a Toyota TRD NASCAR V8 powered Scion FR-S for the Formula D Asia season. He will be sharing this car with Max Orido for the Asia series. The car is stated to put out 700+hp. This should be crazy to see sideways given the power to weight….

Conrad Grunewald Retires 2012 Camaro to Build… Another Camaro?

Last night Conrad Grunewald, pilot of the Hankook Camaro and star of the dozen restarts match between Daigo Saito vs Conrad Grunewald took to Facebook last night to post the following photo of his 2012 Formula D Camaro announcing its retirement.

After about a dozen people asking what was next and hoping for something new he just said it would “Still a Camaro of course. This one is going to be amazing though.” Not sure how amazing a Camaro can be, but let’s see. He also took a moment to respond to a fans inquiry about selling the Camaro and poke fun at Mustangs.

Ford Going Big in Motorsports for 2013

Posted by: on

Yesterday at the Chicago Auto Show Ford made two large announcements related to GRC (Global RallyCross Championship).

First they introduced the new 2013 Ford Fiesta ST Global RallyCross Championship Race Car based off the new Ford Fiesta ST. Built by Swedish based OlsbergsMSE (Olsberg Motor Sports Evolution), the team who backed Tanner Foust in his two consecutive GRC championships. From what we can gather, as Ford has not released official specs/details, the Fiesta ST GRC edition will be available in only the 5-door hatchback body and sport a 2.0 liter Ford twin-cam Duratech four cylinder with custom head, Magnaflow exhaust, large Garrett turbo setup, Eibach springs, Alcon breaks, 17in Motegis, hydraulic handbreaking system, and be completely gutted and caged for safety standards. This combination is good for 550+ HP, 590+ TQ and a 0-60 speed of just 2 seconds flat.

The 2013 Ford Fiest ST GRC edition will be piloted in the 2013 GRC season by Tanner Foust and Brian Deegan. Ken Block is expected to also be piloting a 2013 Ford Fiest ST GRC and will reveal his car later this year.

This also means that Foust and Deegan’s previous GRC cars are currently up for grabs over at OlsbergsMSE website.

In addition to this already large announcement for Ford and the GRC, it was announced that Ford will be the sole automotive sponsor for the four 2013 summer X Games with RallyCross events in LA, Brazil, Spain and Germany. This is on top of Ford signing up to be an official sponsor of Formula D in 2013. Looks like Ford is taking a huge interest in some of the more wild motorsports series.

Chelsea Denofa Announces Return of the BMW and Confirms Bergenholtz Rumors

Posted by: on

Chelsea Denofa announced today that he will be returning for the 2013 Formula D season as we all expected after a pretty successful rookie season in 2012. What we didn’t expect was that he will be returning in the BMW that he built after his crash at wall speedway and he never got to pilot in the 2012 season. This means he will be returning as a privateer driver and not with Bergenholtz Racing. It was surprising to many when shortly after the crash at wall speedway and in the middle of the Formula D 2012 season Bergenholtz Racing announced it would be splitting ways with Joon Maeng and picking up Chelsea Denofa to pilot the Nitto Tires RX-8. This announcement by Denofa confirms previous rumors that Bergenholtz would not be returning to Formula D for the 2013 season. I for one am excited to see the gold and black BMW back out there, I feel that Denofa looked much more comfortable in it and pushed his limits more. It’s also a more unique choice of platform vs the current roster of vehicles on the field. We wish Chelsea the best in the 2013 season and hope to see him on the podium soon.
